Pastor’s Thoughts

Jul 3, 2025

Our Gospel this weekend is all about traveling with nothing. Imagine your going on vacation for two weeks but are told you were not allowed to pack anything. What’s your first reaction? Incredulity? Fear? Panic? Is this a joke? Jesus orders his disciples to carry nothing with them as they were instructed to move from town to town preaching and teaching about Him. The best part of the story, not a single one of the disciples starved to death, were ever without clothes, or had no where to sleep. Jesus assured each of them would be taken care of. This is what freed them up to worry about nothing except their mission to spread the good news about Jesus. There is nothing wrong with taking care of oneself. It’s an absolute must in our world today. However, we must ask, ‘to what extent do our possessions control us or do we control them?’ A general examination between wants and needs is always in order. Jesus may be asking us to once in awhile ask ourselves, is this truly a ’need’ in my life or merely another ’want.’ I remember a quote that went something like this: ‘While small minds were bragging about their material possessions, great minds were busy expanding their assets. . .’ A reminder of a few parish events up and coming to mark your calendars. First is our Parish Polish Festival is Saturday September 27th. We will have 2 new bands this year. We will begin with Polish music and polkas followed by a disco band. Both bands and links to You tube videos are available on our parish website under ‘NEWS.’ Second, on Sunday October 5th we will have our annual Parish Picnic for all of our registered parishioners at no cost. Our gift to you! The festival food will be the same cater as in previous years. It will start after the 11:30 am Mass by the garages behind the rectory. Hopefully October will be a bit cooler than last year’s event. In case of rain, we can head inside the lower hall as well. We will advise you when to call in and give us your attendee counts – Not Now! Finally, our grand Holtkamp Organ dedication recital and blessing by Bishop Malesic is Sunday November 2nd at 3:30 pm. The event is free. Join us to hear our newly renovated 100 year old organ. Information is available on our website and you can follow the link to view the concert organist who will be playing the dedication recital. God Bless, and enjoy the summer. Fr. Roach
